I Need To Find A Service Dog

I Need Training For My Current Dog

At My Workplace Or Event

  • We train service dogs for a wide variety of disabilities. We can discuss your options and ensure that you qualify for a service dog under the ADA, and that a service dog will actually improve your quality of life (as many individuals with these conditions may experience their symptoms worsening with the use of a service dog.) Service dogs can
assist with nearly any disability, however, Mystic Mutts does not train Guide Dogs for the Blind, hearing assistance dogs, or medical alert dogs.

If your dog is already a service dog or service dog in training, the same initial consultation will ensure your dog is ready for the type of training you would like to do and that they are permitted to perform public access under both federal law and your state law. We utilize our right to ask the two questions to ensure a service dog or dog in training is legitimate and is either trained or in training to perform specific tasks to mitigate a disability.

  • Mystic Mutts will train service dogs for ages 4 & up. Minors under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign all agreements & oversee the training process. Individuals who cannot independently care for, train, & handle a dog at home and in public (such as young children, individuals with severe developmental disabilities, or individuals with severe mobility impairments) must have a capable adult living with them to perform all care, training, & handling of the dog.

  • Regardless of whether you are doing a full program or a single private lesson with us, we require every client to go through the same simple onboarding process. This can be performed entirely online via our booking page. Additional information or documents may be needed depending on your program and needs.

  • We train all breeds & sizes, however, we work with each client to find the breed & size of dog to suit their needs. Mobility dogs are subject to structure, height, & weight requirements. The breeds we most commonly match individuals with are Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Standard & Miniature Poodles, Cocker Spaniels, Papillons, and individual rescued mixed breeds who have passed temperament & structure evaluations. We find dogs in the gundog group to be the best suited for work as service dogs due to their easygoing nature and desire to work with people.

We will not train dogs with any degree of BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome, a condition in which the dog snorts due to the soft palate obstructing the airway) above 0 as service dogs. If your dog cannot run, jump the height of their shoulder, and work outside without snorting or struggling to breathe, we cannot ethically train them as a service dog.

We do not breed our own dogs & instead work with reputable breeders and rescues to match our clients with a dog that will fit their needs.

  • No. We do not and are not allowed to require any doctor’s notes or “proof”. You do not even have to disclose a diagnosis to us. However, if you are willing to provide this, it allows us to better assist you. Having an in-depth conversation about which areas of your life your disability causes you to struggle with and which tasks a service dog could perform to help you in those settings is a key part of any of our full programs.

  • We are not, for a few specific reasons. Firstly, only registered 501(c) non-profit organizations are eligible for ADI accreditation. ADI also imposes strict regulations on the number of tasks a dog must be trained to perform, which tools they may be trained on, how the onboarding process works, and frankly, requires a larger operation than what Mystic Mutts is. I am an independent trainer without an organization behind me, which disqualifies my program.

Despite not being or planning to become ADI accredited, we work to show our dedication & expertise in this industry through certifications, testimonials, continuing education, and displaying professionalism & experience in everything we do.

  • For our group classes, private lessons, online programs, and in-your-home programs, we have NO wait list. You can begin the onboarding process and start working with us immediately.

If you are looking to buy a fully trained program dog, our wait list to begin finding your dog and training is currently 8-12 months. This is because we currently have a very limited amount of space and can only take on one program dog at a time. We are working on moving to a new space which will allow us to expand our program & offer shorter-term board & trains.

  • Yes! We offer payment plans through the duration of your chosen program. While we currently cannot offer long-term payment plans, we are working towards partnering with a third-party service which will allow us to do this.

  • Yes! We have 2 types of discounts- Community Contributor discounts and sliding scale discounts. If an individual qualifies for multiple discounts, the single highest discount will apply.

    - Community Contributors are eligible for an automatic 10% discount on any of our programs, group classes, or private lessons. Community Contributors include active or retired military & their immediate family, active or retired nurses & physicians, active or retired public school teachers, and active or retired first responders/firefighters/emergency personnel.

    - We also offer sliding-scale payments for individuals on SSI, government income, or another form of fixed income. Individuals who qualify for our sliding scale program are eligible for a 20% discount on any of our programs, group classes, or private lessons.

We also offer occasional free training, classes, and programs, either through our own funds or through our Pawtners program.

About The Trainer

My name is Trin Lively, and I would describe myself as a “lifelong learner”. I am a registered AKC CGC/Trick Dog Evaluator, professional pet & service dog trainer, and certified Master Dog Trainer through the Highland Canine School For Dog Trainers. I earned this title at just 18 years old through a 6-month, 960-hour intensive program, graduating in the top 10 scores of my class as the youngest trainer present.

As I teach each dog I work with to do incredible things, I am also learning through ongoing mentorships and other continuing education to better serve my clients, their service dogs, and my community. Service dogs are my passion and when I am not working with my clients’ canine lifelines, I can be found training, working, and competing with my personal dog, Jinx. Jinx is my Standard Poodle, who is trained in an assortment of medical & autism assistance tasks, serves as my demonstration & distraction dog for clients, and is working towards multiple sport titles in Rally Obedience and Disc. She is social with dogs & humans alike, always happy to work, and incredibly in-tune with me- exactly the dog I want to help every one of my clients build.
